Street Photography: Crossroads

Shot 3rd March 2018. Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia.

This image is about where as much as what. Here we have a number of small stories all in one image.

We have on the left a woman on her phone who looks hunched over and almost a little defeated. completely ignoring that fact that she is surrounded by the most amazing works of art. The addition of her being disconnected from the space by being connected to someone who is not physically there is really interesting to me.

We can see down the hall to where others are enjoying the art. Taking in the sights and being inspired.

We have a couple waiting, looking off into the distance. what are they thinking about? Are the reflecting about what they have seen? Are they just tired and having a rest?

Then we have a lovely couple of ladies having a good old chat. I just love the interaction between them with not a phone in site. They are animated and obviously having a great day. Love that one is about to grab something from her handbag. And what are they talking about.

and the schoolgirls having their photograph taken in front of some art to remember their day. just at the start of making a life for themselves.

It’s a multicultural image. It represents what Australian life is all about to me.

This is one of my favourite places to visit when in Sydney. Not only do I feel uplifted by the art but I love to people watch.

What stories are you getting from this image. Do you read it differently to me?
